The international nature film festival brings films and filmmakers from all over the world to Estonia, three world premieres will be held at the festival, MAFF's own major event is the premiere of the new Estonian nature film "Suur soo" (The Great Swamp).
This year there are 60 films in the program, the films are in English or in their original language and with Estonian or English subtitles. During the festival the tickets and passes are available at the venue, free admission for children aged 15 or under. This year, festival celebrates its 20th birthday. From the first year one important component of the festival has been nature photography. There have always been stunning exhibitions and audience-grabbing workshops going on, while one of the festival days has usually been fully devoted to photography.
One remarkable asset of the festival is undoubtedly Matsalu National Park Matsalu National Park is a nature reserve in SW of Estonia. . Situated barely ten minutes to drive from the festival venue, it is accessible to each and every visitor who could either take a special tour or simply drop by during the lunch break.
The competition films screened at MAFF compete in two categories: "Nature" and "Man and Nature". The winners are selected by a jury of experts.
