Nord Pool has announced that the new maximum price of electricity will be 5,000€ per megawatt-hour. The last ceiling was 4,000€ per megawatt-hour. The latest price takes effect from the 21st of September.

The reason for the rise is that the previous maximum price was reached on the 16th of August. At the time, 4,000€ per megawatt-hour was the highest possible price on the stock exchange.

Ingrid Arus, head of the Nord Pool Spot Baltics electricity exchange, claims that the high price was reached since the stock exchange market did not have as much to sell as the buyers wanted.
