The Ministry of Culture has announced 2023 the Be Active year. Its purpose is to generate interest in exercising and healthier lifestyles. Moreover, we wish to increase the number of people in Estonia who exercise regularly.

In 2021 the Ministry of Culture conducted and the Sport for All Association coordinated a survey. It showed that only about 40% of adults and 25% of children get enough physical exercise.

During the Be Active Year we will focus primarily on people who do not get enough exercise – children, young people, families, middle-aged and elderly people. Every month we introduce affordable and accessible options to the people for staying active, all for the sake of well-being and health. By sharing simple instructions and examples, we help people to develope regular exercise habits.

In January, the focus of the year of Be Active is enjoying the joys of winter and skiing. In cooperation with the Estonian Ski Association, Terviserade SA and the Liikumisharrastus Competence Center, Estonia's best ski coaches will give free ski lessons to children, young people and adults all over Estonia from January 15. Ski lessons are offered to both beginners and advanced skiers.

The year of Be Active will be opened on January 1 by the campaign "My first 23" on social media, which invites people to move outside and capture their first moments of movement in 2023, be they minutes, steps or kilometers. The campaign will take place on the Facebook and Instagram pages of the Year of Movement "Year of Movement 2023". We also ask all Estonian people who move on January 1st and post about it on social media to also use topic references #liikumisaasta ja #hakkameliigutama.
