The Health Board Terviseamet. states that the certificate does not have to be printed out and handed in physically, although some schools still demand it. As all the medical information concerning a child is entered into the digital information bank by their family's general practitioner(family GP), the school nurses should have access to it via the digital system.

The pre-school examination is required for every child to go through to determine their state of health. The medical examination should include eyesight control, hearing control, growth data, physical indicators, dental hygiene, and age-appropriate maturity. If the evaluation has not been completed by the start of the school year, the school is still obligated to accept the student and find ways to check the child's health. The health control can happen through the school nurse, who can perform the basic health inspection and, if necessary, send the child for further checkout to a specialist. If the child does not yet have a GP, then the GP can be assigned by the local authorities, or the school nurse can make an appointment with a GP, and the GP can then add the child to their list of patients.

The health examination should happen in the first three months of the new school year beginning.
