From today, a sports film will be in cinemas, which also tells the story of Estonia's independence.

It’s the summer of 1990. The Soviet Union is teetering on the verge of collapse, while the little Baltic nations struggle to take back their lost independence. The Soviet Union`s basketball championship is set to begin on the backdrop of a deeply divided society.

The Estonian team Kalev faces a momentous decision. With Estonian independence seemingly within reach, a rising tide of public opinion opposes the Estonian national team’s participation in the USSR’s championship. That would contradict the people’s aspirations for liberation. As professional athletes, the team makes the unpopular choice.

Movie is based on true events, every sports fan and even non-fan in Estonia knows the names of the players. These men were immensely famous.

Foreign viewers may also be interested in the era in which the events take place, it's the late 1980's and early 90's, the time-period when Soviet Union started to collapse. Art department has done a wonderful job in creating the atmosphere. Some movie critics in Estonia have already claimed that this is a masterpiece.

Movie has subtittles in English and in Russian. In cinemas all over Estonia from 23. September.
