Last Saturday, 30th of July, the Environmental Agency received a notification that the Umbusi river in Jõgeva County County in the eastern part of Estonia (pop.29,000). has an anomaly in the watercolor.

The Umbusi river is a known salmon spawning ground. By the time salmon arrive, the Environmental Agency is confident that the pollution will clear away.

Walking on the banks of the Umbusi river, you may notice dead fish in it. The pollution leakage is from AS Pajusi ABF farm silage juices reaching the rainwater sewer. The storage gutters were blocked, and the pollution from the silo reached the lake. The silo contains many nutrients, making the river water lack oxygen. Thus, the fish and others living in it die. The local authorities have called people to help clear dead fish from the river, but with continuous as the water itself irritates the skin. Protection wear should be on if you are going to help alleviate the river.

Misdemeanor proceedings have started against the company by the Environmental Agency. The Environmental Board is advising the company on how to minimize the pollution risk in the future. AS Pajusi ABF must clean all the pipes and ditches through which the pollution entered the river.
