Today, around 14:45, the Rescue Center received a call that a big grain field in Mündi village in Paide Town in central Estonia(pop. 10,000). had caught fire.
The communication manager at Lääne Rescue Centre says that the fire was presumably caused by the grain harvester hitting the high voltage lines. The lines are not down; however, some households are missing power due to the accident.
Due to the boiling and dry weather, even a tiny spark can light a fire instantly. A vast area of land, including the nearby forest, has suffered damage from the fire. The wind carried the fire to the woods. By now, the firefighters have put the forest fire down alongside volunteers. The field fire is also under control, but the extinguishing operations are still ongoing. The combine harvesters helped keep the fire under control by harvesting the field before the fire. The actions helped to restrict the fire from spreading. At least a hectare of the field suffered damage, but the actual size of the area that caught fire is unknown yet.
