There are many traditional music festivals in Estonia every year. Hiiu Folk has its own particular image and many fans, due to being a family-focused, non-alcoholic festival with a peaceful atmosphere in the middle of nature, where both young and old can feel welcome. For Estonians, Hiiumaa Second largest island in the NW of Estonia(pop.10,000). island is also quite an exotic place and always worth visiting.

The festival will be opened in Sõru boathouse, while the rest of the concerts will take place on Kassari swinging field. The last day of the festival also offeres concerts in different churches of Hiiumaa Second largest island in the NW of Estonia(pop.10,000). . Apart from the concerts, a rich festival program is waiting for the guests - nature walks, exhibitions and workshops, a festival fair, as well as special programs for kids where well-known cartoon figures Klaus the travelling dog and Lotte the dog girl will entertain the smallest festival-goers.

Most of the performers come from Estonia – Mari Jürjens, Cätlin Mägi and Jaan Pehk, the Nedsaja Village Band, Uurikad, Margus Tabor, Robirohi, Kärt Johanson, Indrek and Paul Kristjan Kalda, the Taul family ensemble, Anna-Liisa Eller, Villu Veski and Tiit Kalluste, Helin-Mari Arder, Lovely Beats, Rüüt, and many others.

This year’s festival will also host some fascinating performers from abroad. Andrew Lawrence-King is a harpist from Guernsey Island, he in well known for the techniques of early harp performance and for his heavily improvisational style. Góbé from Hungary play folk songs on acoustic instruments, venturing among pop music genres, creating a kind of “folk pop” that is entertaining and contemporary but preserves its roots at the same time. English fiddle player Robbie Sherratt and Eva Väljaots perform original music music influenced by Estonian and English folklore which is both modern and tradition-rooted, combines kannel, fiddle, and vocals in a colourful, rich and enchanting way.
