Yesterday, the first winners of the new annual literary award Book of the Year were announced in

Tallinn, the largest city and capital of Estonia (population 440 000).

The jury of the Book of the Year included nearly 100 literary and media personalities from all over Estonia, from librarians to journalists, from the Minister of Culture to bookstagrammers. In addition, more than 2,000 readers took part in the People's Favorite selection. In total, the jury and readers could choose this year from over 2,000 books published in the last 12 months.
Book of the Year 2022 winners:
The best fiction book by an Estonian author: Lauri Räpp "The Importance of Simple Things" ("Lihtsate asjade tähtsus").
Best translated fiction book: Kristina Sabaliauskaite «Peter the Empress II», translated by Tiina Kattel.
The best nonfiction book by an Estonian author: Jaan Aru "Creativity and lounging" (Loovusest ja logelemisest").
Best Nonfiction Book Translated: "Tastes in my life" by Stanley Tucci. Translated by Marianne Ots.
The best children's or youth book by an Estonian author: Kätlin Kaldmaa "Lydia", illustrator Jaan Rõõmus.
Best translated book for children or young adults: Anna Gavalda "35 kilos of hope" translator Indrek Koff.
People's Favorite: Lauri Räpp "The Importance of Simple Things" ("Lihtsate asjade tähtsus").
