Most students in Estonia continue their studies into secondary education, although it is not mandatory. Studies last for 3 additional years, (grades 10-12), and end with three state graduation exams and school examinations. Successful graduation out of secondary school allows students to continue their studies at a university.
There are many schools in Estonia that offer the possibility for students to study 12 years at the same school, especially in bigger cities. Smaller areas have schools that may provide only basic education, and students will then have a choice to continue in secondary school. Often, high-level schools arrange tests to select the best students for their secondary school.
